AWS released Claude Sonnet 5.5 on Amazon Bedrock today, stating it is designed for focused coding and knowledge work with lower cost per task for most work at faster speed. It is the company's first major update to the Claude model series since the introduction of Claude Opus 5.5.
AWS reported that Claude Sonnet 5.5 produces more polished documents and visuals than its predecessor, including one-pagers, architecture diagrams, and summary slides. That compares with the earlier model, which was less adept at generating such outputs.
Claude Sonnet 5.5 is built on Amazon Bedrock and targets workloads that run continuously or at scale. Availability begins today, initially for developers and enterprise users looking to automate routine tasks.
"Claude Sonnet 5.5 completes the work and checks the result against the stated requirements," said AWS. The model is well-suited for tasks that require clear execution once the approach is defined.
The announcement follows the recent availability of Opus 5.5. AWS framed the significance of Sonnet 5.5 as an enhancement to its portfolio of AI models for diverse use cases.
AWS did not say when the model will be available globally, and it raised the question of how it will perform on complex, unstructured tasks. The company said it is now available on Amazon Bedrock through the Global CRIS inference profile.
