AWS released a series of updates to its AI platform in August 2026, focusing on enhancing tools for developers and businesses to build and scale AI applications. These updates include new features for Amazon Bedrock, AgentCore, and Strands, expanding the capabilities for developers to create and manage AI systems.
AWS reported that Amazon Bedrock, used by more than 225,000 active customers, including over 80% of Fortune 100 companies, continues to provide access to leading models and tools for building and scaling AI applications. The company emphasized the importance of security, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency in production environments.
The new features include the Strands Agent Harness SDK, now available as open source, giving developers flexibility to create and deploy agents wherever they choose. These updates help developers turn model intelligence into production agents without limiting how those agents are built or where they run.
"As models become more capable, organizations can ask a more ambitious question: how much meaningful work can AI take on from start to finish?" said an AWS representative. The company believes the next phase of AI will be shaped not only by what models can do, but by how confidently you can delegate responsibility to the systems built around them.
The announcement follows the release of GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna, which support million-token context windows with prompt caching, helping reduce cost and latency when context is reused. These updates allow developers to analyze entire codebases or regulatory documents and return cited responses from a single API call.
AWS did not specify the exact cost reductions for the GPT-5.6 family, but it did mention lower pricing across the models on Amazon Bedrock. The company also highlighted the importance of managing inference spend as model usage grows, with new tools for cost allocation and anomaly detection.
