Basura and Big Data released the Bezzy plushie, a satirical data center mascot, on April 5, 2024, with a price tag of $99. It is the company's first plushie project since its luxury dog wear line.

The Bezzy doll is designed to mimic the sound of a data center in Virginia, with a recording that includes high-pitched, continuous noise. The sound was described as 'like a car alarm going off nonstop' by the person who recorded it.

Bezzy is built as a stuffed animal with a server rack appearance and features a tag that reads, 'Hug me for ear-piercing forever hum.' The plushie is handmade in the US and is part of a broader project called Adopt a Data Center.

"We picked this recording as it was the clearest and most suitably irritating," said Rajeev Basu, founder of Basura. The project aims to make people think about how data centers impact their lives.

The announcement follows a series of interviews with residents near data centers in the US. Basura said the project is the result of dozens of conversations with those affected by data center noise.

Basura did not say how the project will expand beyond the plushie and the stickers, and raised questions about who gets to decide where data centers go. The website encourages users to look at the facts about data centers.
