Elon Musk has publicly endorsed Anthropic's Mythos/Fable, stating he would not cut off the company even as a competitor. Musk made the comments on X, responding to concerns that he might shut down Anthropic's operations. He emphasized that such actions are 'not my style,' according to a post from July 2026. The remarks come after Musk previously criticized Anthropic in a September 2025 post, but he has since reversed his stance, citing the company's success in the AI market.

Musk highlighted that Anthropic is one of SpaceX’s largest customers, having signed a deal in May to purchase 300 megawatts of compute from xAI’s Colossus 1 data center near Memphis, Tennessee. The agreement, worth $40 billion in revenue for SpaceX’s xAI unit, includes payments of $1.25 billion per month through May 2029. He also noted that Google has signed a similar deal with SpaceX, paying $920 million per month through June 2029. Musk argued that this partnership is mutually beneficial, as Anthropic’s operations could provide valuable insights for SpaceX’s engineers.

Musk provided examples of his 'don’t-squeeze-competitors' approach, including Tesla’s open-source patent policy and SpaceX’s fair pricing for competing satellite systems. However, he acknowledged that his company is not above using tactics against rivals, as seen in his lawsuit against OpenAI. Anthropic and Google may feel they have safeguards against SpaceX gaining insights into their operations, but the partnership still offers significant benefits for SpaceX, including financial gains and potential knowledge sharing.
