Ahad Ali, a former accountant, launched Tabby, an AI-driven bookkeeping platform, in May 2025. The product is designed to automate bookkeeping for small businesses, providing real-time financial data and reducing the need for traditional accounting software.

Tabby uses Plaid to import live account data and AI to create real-time financial dashboards for businesses. The platform also offers a version for accounting firms seeking an alternative to QuickBooks, but Ali's focus is on direct-to-end-user deployment.

"I realized that small businesses don’t need better accounting software," Ali told TechCrunch. "They need less accounting software. They need something that just does it for them."

The platform has gained traction, with 5,500 small businesses using it and generating about $100,000 in annual recurring revenue. Ali's team, consisting of seven people, is raising $1 million in pre-seed funding.

Tabby is preparing to launch Tabby Talk, a natural language interface for the product, as competition in the accounting space intensifies. Ali faces challenges from established players like QuickBooks and well-funded startups like Rillet.

Ali believes Tabby can carve out a niche by targeting small- to medium-sized firms. "Everything we see is making us believe that there’s a path for other players, because the space is big," Ali said. "There’s 30 million more businesses."
