Gallup reported that 68% of Americans who use AI daily are worried about its implications, according to a new survey conducted by the firm. The findings highlight a growing anxiety around AI adoption, even among regular users.
The survey, commissioned by Microsoft, includes results from 37 countries, with 1,000 people interviewed in each between April and July. The study will eventually expand to 140 countries, though India, Australia, and Malaysia are not currently included in the results.
In the U.S., 74% of daily AI users reported feeling worried, while only 36% expect AI to mostly help the country. Similar patterns were observed in other wealthy Western countries, with Canada showing 64% of AI-aware individuals expressing concern.
"One of the clearest findings is that attitudes toward AI are multidimensional," said Pablo Diego-Rosell, senior scientist at Gallup. "People can be curious about AI, expect it to be beneficial and use it frequently while still being worried about it."
The survey also found that trust in AI results remains low, with only 36% of respondents expressing high confidence. In high-adoption countries like Singapore, Israel, and China, daily users showed more trust, while less frequent users remained skeptical.
AI safety is a major topic of discussion as U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping meet. China’s head of the Ministry of State Security, Chen Yixin, warned that AI could threaten China’s political and security environment.
