Google DeepMind released Gemini 4 Argon on September 30, 2026, saying it delivers frontier performance in complex workflows across real-world software engineering, enterprise knowledge work like legal and finance, and cybersecurity defense. It is the company's first major model update since the release of Gemini 4.

Google DeepMind reported Gemini 4 Argon achieved a score of 77.9% on DeepSWE v1.1, measuring a model’s performance in real-world long-horizon software engineering tasks. That compares with a score of 74.1% on the same benchmark for its predecessor, Gemini 4.

Gemini 4 Argon is built on advanced deep reasoning capabilities and targets cybersecurity defense, software engineering, and enterprise knowledge work. Availability begins through the Fairwind Program, initially for a set of trusted cyber defenders.

"Argon is fundamentally changing the way we work and build at Google," said Koray Kavukcuoglu, SVP, Google DeepMind and Chief AI Architect, Google. It delivers frontier performance in complex workflows across real-world software engineering, enterprise knowledge work like legal and finance, and cybersecurity defense.

The announcement follows Google DeepMind’s ongoing efforts to safely release frontier capabilities, with a phased approach to model access. Google DeepMind said it is actively engaged in the U.S. government’s voluntary process for pre-release model access while gradually expanding access.

Google DeepMind did not say when Argon will be available to developers, enterprises, and consumers, and raised the question of how to balance innovation with safety. It said it will continue to gather feedback from early testers as it iterates on guardrails before making Argon available to a broader audience.
