Google reported that its internal AI tools helped it address more security flaws in the Chrome browser in June than in the past two years combined. The company announced that it fixed 1,072 security bugs in the last two Chrome versions, both released in June. This number exceeds the total of 1,036 fixes from the previous 23 versions released over the past two years. Google attributes this increase to the use of large language models (LLMs) to automate vulnerability discovery and patching.
According to Chrome’s director of engineering, Doug Turner, the adoption of LLMs has fundamentally changed cybersecurity economics, turning vulnerability discovery into an automated, large-scale process. Turner stated that by applying models like Gemini, Google is able to preemptively fix vulnerabilities, outpacing malicious actors and improving Chrome’s security with each update. Google also shared a chart showing the exponential rise in security bug fixes over time, with the latest two Chrome versions, 149 and 150, marking significant milestones.
The company emphasized that this trend is not unique to Google, as Microsoft also reported a record 570 security fixes in its products during its recent Patch Tuesday. Apple, however, has not shown the same exponential growth, with only 482 bugs patched in 2026, roughly on par with 2025 and 2015 figures. TechCrunch reached out to Apple for comment but did not receive a response.
