HuggingFace released Reef, an open-source infrastructure for continual self-improving agents, on September 15, 2026, enabling live learning from real-time inference. It is the company's first major update to its infrastructure since the initial release of its agent development framework in 2024.
HuggingFace reported Reef's ability to support live learning from real-time inference, measured on its ability to integrate with existing applications and support continuous agent evolution. That compares with the earlier focus on static inference engines that do not support self-improvement.
Reef is built on a stateful inference architecture and targets the use case of enabling agents to evolve from their experience. Availability begins with open-source access, initially for developers and researchers.
