Intuit released an agentic disaster recovery assistant using Amazon Bedrock, enhancing its internal disaster recovery system. It builds on the Ecosystem Wide Orchestrator Kit (EWOK), which standardizes failover execution across compute, databases, networking, caches, and asynchronous workloads.
The system reduces recovery times from several hours to about 20 minutes for supported workloads. It uses YAML for declaring recovery intent, with EWOK orchestrating the underlying infrastructure actions. However, decision-making for recovery workflows still relied on the tribal knowledge of experienced engineers.
To address this, Intuit built EWOK Agent, an AI-powered agent using Amazon Bedrock. Teams across Intuit have used it to run failovers for the past eight months. Amazon Bedrock provides access to hundreds of foundation models from leading AI providers through a single API, enabling model selection and switching without rearchitecting the agent.
"EWOK Agent delivers a robust, scalable, and secure solution for disaster recovery," said Intuit's engineering lead. The agent ensures policy alignment and operational safety during failovers by validating readiness and checking policy gates.
The announcement follows Intuit's commitment to improving operational resilience and reducing downtime for its critical services. Intuit did not specify the exact number of services using the new system, and the company noted the need for further testing and refinement before full-scale deployment.
