Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter and Block, has launched a new group chat platform called Buzz. The app is designed to serve as a workplace communication tool that unites human users and AI agents in the same conversation. According to Dorsey's announcement on X, Buzz is 'model-agnostic, decentralized, self-sovereign, and open source.' This positions Buzz as a direct competitor to established platforms like Slack and GitHub, with a focus on reducing reliance on these services.
Buzz is built by Block, the parent company of Square, Cash App, Afterpay, and Tidal. The platform is intended to merge multiple workflows into one workspace, offering features like native AI agents and the ability to manage GitHub projects from a single interface. Developers can customize their Buzz instance to better fit their team's needs, as the platform's open-source nature allows for self-hosting and feature development.
Dorsey is not the only entrepreneur exploring AI-native alternatives to Slack. Georgios Konstantopoulos, a Paradigm partner and CTO, recently introduced Centaur, an open-source product described as a 'virtual employee' that operates within Slack or via an API. Konstantopoulos emphasized the potential for AI agents to enhance productivity in enterprise settings.
