Meta released WhatsApp Business Tools MCP on Tuesday, allowing AI agents to set up and manage WhatsApp Business messaging. This marks the company's first major update to its MCP servers since expanding their use beyond ad management and app configuration monitoring.
The new MCP server enables AI agents like Claude, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT to connect directly with the WhatsApp Business Platform. This update is part of Meta's broader strategy to integrate AI into its social technologies, making business setup more efficient for developers.
"This process was previously a bit more cumbersome, as it required developers to move between different tools and services," said Meta. The company noted that the AI agent will handle tasks such as creating a company’s WhatsApp Business account, verifying phone numbers, and checking Terms of Service.
