Mistral AI is enhancing AI sovereignty by offering enterprises and governments greater control over AI models, infrastructure, and compute capacity, ensuring regional compliance and reliability. The company is expanding open model access, introducing regional endpoints, and forming a coalition to secure long-term European compute capacity. With plans to build up to 1 GW of capacity by 2030, Mistral aims to provide scalable, sovereign AI infrastructure that retains value and control for users.
Mistral Regional Endpoints, now generally available, let customers choose whether their inference runs in Europe or the US, helping them align inference location with data-residency, regulatory, and latency requirements. Inference and associated processing occur in the selected region, subject to limited, safeguarded transfers to sub-processors outside that region. The new Mistral Priority Tier, now in public preview, provides committed service levels for mission-critical workloads, including custom rate limits, and is backed by an uptime SLA. Mistral is the only European AI lab to offer both: regional processing choice and a committed, SLA-backed service level.
Mistral is extending openness beyond its own models by supporting third-party open models, starting with Z.ai’s GLM-5.2. These models will run on the same infrastructure, regional controls, and service commitments as Mistral models, allowing customers to broaden model choice without fragmenting where their AI runs. Different workloads require different models, and Mistral enables running open models under strict regional controls and service commitments, making it easier to maintain data residency and compliance requirements while furthering its commitment to open source.
