Mistral released Mistral Large 4 on October 6, 2026, saying it achieves performance competitive with the strongest open-source models globally. It is the company's first major update since the launch of Mistral Large 3.

Mistral reported a 1 trillion-parameter natively multimodal model with 49 billion active parameters, measured on a range of benchmarks. That compares with its previous model, which had fewer parameters.

Mistral Large 4 is built on 3,800 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs in Mistral’s own datacenters in Europe and targets enterprise workloads such as cybersecurity, finance, and law. Availability begins with a public preview API, initially for developers and partners.

"You can try the preview API today on Mistral Studio," said Mistral. "Weights drop end of this month."

The announcement follows a series of collaborations with leading enterprises across the world in finance, engineering, manufacturing, logistics, pharmaceuticals, science, shipping, public sector, and other mission-critical industries. Mistral said the model is a significant milestone in its long-term investment across infrastructure, research, and product development.

Mistral did not say how the model will be priced, and raised the open question of how it will compete with closed models. The company said it will share further details on the model architecture, additional benchmarks, and its post-training methodology.
