Mistral announced a new Munich hub on September 28, 2026, to strengthen its presence in Germany’s industrial AI sector, which is the largest in the EU. The hub will house specialized research teams dedicated to Physics AI and Industrial AI, alongside applied engineers serving enterprise partners directly.
Germany is the largest industrial economy in the European Union, with enterprises that have accumulated proprietary data and process knowledge over generations across automotive, energy, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing. Mistral said its Munich hub will focus on leveraging this depth of industrial knowledge to create competitive advantage through AI.
Mistral emphasized that its AI stack, including frontier language models, Physics AI capabilities, enterprise deployment, and sovereign compute infrastructure, is already accessible to German industry, public institutions, and organizations. The company plans to build one gigawatt of European compute capacity by 2030 to secure Europe’s AI sovereignty.
"Our models run on the customer’s own infrastructure, trained on their data, operated under European law, with full auditability and no data leaving the organization," said Arthur Mensch, Co-founder and CEO, Mistral. This approach ensures that the intelligence stays where it was built, aligning with Mistral’s commitment to technological sovereignty.
The announcement follows Mistral’s acquisition of Emmi AI in May 2026, which brought more than 30 physicists, researchers, and engineers with expertise in Physics and Engineering AI into the company. Mistral is collaborating with BMW on crash simulations and Siemens Energy on industrial AI applications.
Mistral did not specify the exact timeline for the Munich hub’s full operational capacity, and the company highlighted the need for continued investment in European AI research and talent. The hub will anchor Mistral’s hiring across research, engineering, and applied AI roles as it scales its Physics AI and industrial AI capabilities.
