Mistral announced it has raised €3 billion in a Series D funding round, achieving a post-money valuation of more than €21 billion. This marks the largest equity fundraising round ever completed by a European technology company, three years after its launch.
The funding will expand Mistral's frontier research, which underpins its infrastructure, products, and sovereignty. It will also scale the company's compute capacity for training powerful models, supporting its global expansion and commercial growth.
Mistral now operates in 20 countries and supports over 125 global enterprises in their mission-critical AI transformation, including Airbus, ASML, and HSBC. The company is the only AI firm building the full stack required to balance performance with control, choice, and independence.
"During the first wave of generative AI, the central question was who could build the most powerful model.
Organizations and governments are now asking a different one: how to harness the power of AI for their mission-critical needs without surrendering control over the infrastructure and intelligence loop," said Mistral's leadership.
This shift reflects growing international demand for AI solutions that ensure data governance and deployment flexibility.
The round reflects strategic endorsement from investors across Europe, Asia, and North America. It includes a world-class syndicate of strategic and financial investors, including global technology leaders and existing shareholders that have supported Mistral's development to date.
Mistral did not specify how it plans to use the funds beyond expanding its frontier research and infrastructure. The company also raised the question of how enterprises and governments will balance long-term technology dependencies with data governance and deployment choices. The funding will enable Mistral to continue its mission of building sovereign AI systems.
