Nscale, a British AI neocloud company, has acquired Anyscale, a software startup that helps businesses scale AI workloads across data centers and servers. The acquisition, valued at $1.65 billion, is part of Nscale’s strategy to capture more of its customers’ AI spending. Anyscale’s platform, built on the open-source Project Ray framework, supports large language models, data curation, inferencing, and reinforcement learning. The deal aligns with Nscale’s focus on vertically integrating compute solutions, expanding its offerings to include workload management and scaling.
Anyscale, which was valued at $1.38 billion in a 2022 Series C round, reported a 70% increase in revenue in its latest quarter compared to the previous one. The company’s platform provides developer tools, observability, and orchestration capabilities, enabling efficient AI workload management. Nscale said Anyscale will continue to operate under its own brand and serve existing customers, with its approximately 200 employees joining Nscale. The acquisition is expected to enhance Nscale’s ability to co-design software layers and infrastructure, according to Anyscale’s statement.
Nscale raised $2 billion in a March Series C round, valuing the company at $14.6 billion, with investors including Nvidia, Nokia, Dell, and Aker. The company has also secured partnerships with Microsoft, British Telecom, and Nordcraft to expand its compute and data center capabilities. Nscale’s acquisition of Anyscale represents a strategic move to consolidate its position in the AI compute market, leveraging Anyscale’s expertise in workload scaling and management.
