Nvidia released Perplexity Portable Computer on Windows PCs, enabling users to run local AI agents for sensitive data processing. It is the company's first major local AI update since expanding support for NVIDIA DGX Spark systems and RTX PCs running Linux.
Perplexity Portable Computer uses local models like Qwen 3.8 27B, optimized for NVIDIA RTX GPUs, to handle multistep tasks without consuming cloud credits. Availability begins today, initially for users with GeForce RTX and RTX PRO GPUs featuring 24GB or more VRAM.
"Portable Computer can identify when a task needs cloud support, asking the user for permission before sending information off-device," said Perplexity. The app simplifies setup by using a local model pre-trained to work with Perplexity Computer.
The announcement follows NVIDIA's broader push into local AI, emphasizing the integration of local and cloud AI in one app. Nvidia did not specify how the agent handles complex reasoning tasks, and users can orchestrate work up to cloud models for advanced research.
