OpenAI announced on Thursday that it has integrated ChatGPT Voice into the ChatGPT desktop app, enabling users to interact with the AI through voice commands. This new feature allows users to control AI agents and execute tasks on their computers. The voice mode is powered by OpenAI’s new family of voice models called ChatGPT-Live, which were launched earlier this month. According to OpenAI, the desktop version of ChatGPT Voice is more capable than its smartphone counterpart, allowing users to dictate complex commands and respond when input is needed. In a demo video, OpenAI showed a developer using ChatGPT Voice to create a new thread, make a pull request, and find the root cause of a bug with a single command. The update is now available globally.
ChatGPT Voice works with both ChatGPT Work and Codex, and can also access computer use skills to look up websites and apps. On macOS, users can let the app access their screen, including alt-text, through a feature called Appshots. OpenAI also mentioned that users can utilize ChatGPT Voice in Codex from the iOS app via remote access. Additionally, the company highlighted that the desktop version is more capable than the smartphone version, allowing for more complex interactions and multi-step commands. The feature is part of OpenAI’s ongoing efforts to enhance user interaction with its AI models.
