OpenAI released new analytics tools on September 16, 2026, allowing admins to track AI usage, costs, and business outcomes across ChatGPT Work and Codex. It is the company's first software update since its initial launch in 2023.
OpenAI reported the tools provide detailed insights into user activity, task categorization, and outcome metrics, measured across ChatGPT Work and Codex. That compares with the previous version, which lacked these detailed analytics.
The tools are built on OpenAI's existing platform and target businesses seeking to understand how AI contributes to productivity and profitability. Availability begins with a public beta, initially for enterprise users.
"OpenAI’s analytics help us understand how teams use AI, giving us a foundation for future guidance and policies," said Bharadwaj Tanikella, AI Product Manager at Datadog. The tools are already being used in Datadog’s Agent Console to provide insights into customer AI usage.
The announcement follows a growing demand from enterprises for AI transparency and cost management. OpenAI said the tools are part of its ongoing effort to make AI more measurable and impactful for businesses.
OpenAI did not say how the tools will integrate with third-party systems, and the company raised the question of how to measure the long-term business impact of AI usage. The tools will be available for testing in the coming weeks.
