OpenAI released Dots, AI agents built on GPT-6 Astra, on September 29, 2026, enabling users to work with AI that learns and adapts to their needs. It is the company's first major AI agent update since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022.
OpenAI reported Dots can connect to over 4,000 apps, measured on its ecosystem of plugins, allowing them to help users across various tasks. That compares with the earlier ChatGPT integration, which supported fewer applications.
Dots are built on GPT-6 Astra and target a wide range of use cases, from development to sales and scientific research. Availability begins in eligible markets, initially for Pro, Business Premium, and Enterprise plans.
"Dots are remarkably capable, always-on agents built to handle everything," said OpenAI. They are a whole new way to work with AI—one that gets to know what matters to you, is always working on your behalf, and takes important work off your plate so you get more of your time and attention back.
The announcement follows the release of GPT-6 Astra, which OpenAI said marked a significant step in its AI development. OpenAI framed the significance of Dots as a shift toward more personalized and proactive AI assistance.
OpenAI did not say how Dots will evolve in the future, and raised the open question of how users will adapt to working with AI agents. It said it plans to expand Dots to more users soon.
