Ricursive Intelligence is developing AI tools to reduce chip design time from years to weeks, with a $4 billion valuation after raising $335 million in four months. It is the company's first major hardware development update since its launch in late 2025.
Ricursive Intelligence reported a significant reduction in chip design time, measured by its ability to generate layouts in hours instead of years, compared to traditional methods. That compares with the much longer process required of human designers.
The AI system is built on machine learning and targets the automation of complex chip design processes, from component placement through design verification. Availability begins with early-stage testing, initially for semiconductor manufacturers and research institutions.
"AI can play a significant role in chip design," said Anna Goldie, founder and CEO of Ricursive Intelligence. The system is intended to learn across different chips, so the experience of designing one can improve how it approaches the next.
The announcement follows Ricursive Intelligence's work at Google, where its co-founders co-led AlphaChip, an AI system that could generate chip layouts in hours. The source itself frames the significance as a potential breakthrough in closing the loop between AI and chip development.
Ricursive Intelligence did not say how long the AI-hardware loop will take to mature, and the open question remains about the full impact of self-improving systems. The company believes it can open the door to new chip architecture and ultimately more capable and efficient AI.
