Samsung is in advanced talks to invest up to one billion euros in Mistral, a French AI startup, which would elevate its valuation to approximately 20 billion euros. This potential investment marks a significant step in Samsung's strategy to strengthen its position in the AI sector. The Financial Times reported the development, highlighting the scale of the deal and its implications for the company's growth in the field.

Samsung has already invested in Mistral through its venture arm in 2024, and Swedish investor EQT is also reportedly participating in the new funding round. Mistral, which was valued at 12 billion euros less than a year ago, is now expanding its operations with thousands of Nvidia Vera Rubin chips to scale up GPU capacity. The company is also making its models available through Microsoft's Azure cloud, including in air-gapped environments for regulated industries like finance and healthcare.

Mistral CEO Arthur Mensch previously stated in a February interview that the company expects annual revenue to exceed one billion dollars by the end of the year. The startup has also expanded its partnership with Microsoft, which has committed billions of dollars in spending on Mistral's compute infrastructure. These moves underscore Mistral's growing influence and Samsung's continued push into AI innovation.
