Stability AI released three new audio models and AI music-editing software in late August, saying it aims to become the go-to AI toolmaker for music professionals. It is the company's first major audio update since joining an $80 million rescue two years ago.
Stability reported $76 million in funding from Sony, Warner, and Universal, which also licensed their catalogs for training as part of the deal. That compares with the $80 million rescue announced in 2024.
The new models are built on Stability's internal infrastructure and target music professionals, with availability beginning in late August, initially for industry partners.
"Asking for forgiveness rather than permission didn’t work out so well last time around," said Sean Parker, the Napster co-founder. Parker went on to say that he is playing by the rules this time.
The announcement follows a two-year rescue of Stability AI, which nearly collapsed after overspending and internal turmoil led to founder Emad Mostaque’s ouster. The source itself frames the significance as a strategic shift toward music-focused AI development.
Stability AI did not say when the upcoming update with humming and beatboxing features will be released, and it raised the open question of how the music industry will adopt AI tools. The source says the company plans to release more details in the coming months.
