Shipt released Ask Shipt on September 9, 2026, saying it helps customers shop more intuitively by turning prompts into customized ready-to-buy carts. It is the company's first major AI update since adding AI-powered photo search and customer review summaries to Target.com earlier this year.

Shipt reported no specific benchmark scores or parameter counts for Ask Shipt, but the tool is built on internal AI models and targets personalized shopping experiences. Availability begins immediately, initially for all Shipt app users and Shipt.com visitors.

"Users can ask Shipt to do things like 'Create a cart for my Saturday tailgate for 25 people and include some brunch items,' or 'Build a cart for easy school lunches and after-school snacks,'" said Aisha Malik, a Shipt spokesperson.

The assistant also allows users to upload a photo of a dish they saw online or at a restaurant, and the tool identifies and adds all the ingredients to a cart.

The announcement follows the recent addition of other AI features on Target.com, including AI-powered photo search and customer review summaries, which Shipt said are part of its broader effort to enhance personalized shopping experiences.

Shipt did not say how the AI assistant handles privacy or data security concerns, and the company raised the open question of how to balance personalization with user privacy. The tool is available now in the Shipt app and on Sh, Shipt.com.
