Superhuman has acquired Fathom, a Y Combinator-backed notetaker startup, to enhance its AI-powered productivity tools, with Fathom valued at $94 million in 2024. The move comes as AI-powered productivity platforms aim to automate work, often triggered by user prompts and workflows, but now seeking to enable proactive automation through meeting insights.
Fathom, founded in 2020, has raised over $30 million in funding and boasted 400,000 monthly active users on its free plan. The company reported over 1 million users have recorded meetings, according to its data. Its investor base includes notable figures such as Reddit CEO Steve Huffman and former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear.
"We’ve been working internally on this area for a while as well. I think it greatly increased our confidence in the demand in this category," said Shishir Mehrotra, Superhuman’s CEO. Mehrotra added that the technical intricacies of Fathom’s notetaker impressed him, though he did not specify which features.
The acquisition follows Superhuman’s internal testing of a notetaker earlier this year, which led to the decision to acquire a finished product rather than build from scratch. Mehrotra noted that the process highlighted the complexity of creating a notetaker and the depth of existing solutions in the space.
Competition in the meeting notetaker space is intense, with startups like Granola and Read AI raising millions to grow their offerings. Fathom’s CEO, Richard White, highlighted Superhuman’s 40 million user base as a key opportunity for scaling Fathom’s reach.
Superhuman did not specify how it plans to integrate Fathom’s features into its existing tools, and the company remains focused on leveraging AI to surface meeting context in real time. The acquisition marks a strategic step toward more advanced, agentic productivity tools.
