Apple has announced significant improvements to its Image Playground app at WWDC 2026, addressing previous criticisms about the tool's image quality. The company claims the updates will make AI-powered apps like Image Playground perform better overall. The changes are part of Apple's broader AI overhaul, which aims to enhance the capabilities of its AI intelligence tools.
According to Apple Senior Director Leslie Ikemoto, the updated Image Playground allows users to create images based on natural language descriptions, such as generating a birthday invitation with a friend holding a cake. Ikemoto highlighted that users can now add details like candles to the cake or modify the friend's outfit using text prompts. The app also enables users to generate images in different dimensions for various purposes, such as landscape images for websites or portrait images for flyers.
Image Playground is integrated across devices, allowing users to create lock screens, iMessage backgrounds, and contact posters. Apple emphasized that private photos are not used for AI training, unlike many competitors. Source: techcrunch
