Nous Research has launched Hermes Desktop, an open-source AI agent designed to work across multiple platforms. The app is now in public preview for Windows, macOS, and Linux users. Hermes Desktop enables users to interact with various services such as Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, email, and the terminal.

It includes persistent memory for storing projects and solution paths, along with task planning in natural language. The agent can also delegate tasks to sub-agents, search the web, generate images, and read text aloud. Five backends are available for sandboxed execution, including local, Docker, SSH, Singularity, and Modal.

Through the Nous Portal, free and paid plans provide access to over 300 AI models. Documentation is available online. According to Nous Research, Hermes Desktop is built under the MIT license, ensuring broad accessibility and flexibility for developers and users alike.

The release marks a significant step in the development of open-source AI tools for cross-platform use. The app aims to streamline task management and enhance productivity through its integration of AI capabilities across multiple communication and computing environments. Source: thedecoder
