OpenAI is set to unveil a redesigned version of ChatGPT in the coming weeks, aiming to transform it into a comprehensive 'super app' that includes coding tools and AI agents. The Financial Times reported that the company's goal is to enhance its competitiveness against Anthropic, particularly among business clients, and to move closer to profitability ahead of an IPO. This shift is expected to convert free users into paying customers through integrated products such as Codex.
A senior OpenAI employee reportedly stated, 'Chat is dead,' indicating a significant pivot from the current chat interface. Thibault Sottiaux, who leads OpenAI’s core product and platform, mentioned the company is developing a product where users can have a personal agent capable of assisting with both personal and professional tasks. This approach aligns with previous reports about OpenAI’s ambitions for a super app, which have been discussed since last year.
The Financial Times noted that OpenAI executives have shifted their focus from standalone products, such as the video generator Sora, to a more integrated platform strategy. This marks a strategic change after the company launched various independent products in 2025.
